Admission Policy

In accordance with the Constitution of South Africa and its Bill of Rights; we at Palm Park Primary School accept that all children have a right to “basic education.”

Further; in keeping with the South African Schools Act and our school’s shared values, we

support the principle of no “unfair discrimination” as a basis for this Admission Policy.

We need this policy as a broad guideline for procedures for learner admission to the school

(legal framework) and to defend these procedures.

Terms of the Policy

  • 1 We will accept learners who meet the age requirements as stipulated by the Minister of Education in terms of compulsory education that they follow the prescribed Admission Procedures detailed below.
  • We will give preference to learners living in the immediate vicinity and siblings of learners currently at the school; on condition that they follow the prescribed Admission Policy detailed below.
  • Consideration will be given to learners with special educational needs. Such a decision will be made in consultation with the EMDC and its Psychological Services.
  • Only children of parents / Guardians who follow the admission procedures below will be considered for admission.
  • We will investigate the bona-fide of all learners seeking admission to grades 2 to 7 before admitting such learners.

Admission Procedure

  • A parent or guardian of the prospective learner will have to make the application, in person,
  • Within the stipulated period Parents / Guardian must make the application for admission of the prospective learner
  • BEFORE November of the preceding year.
  • Consideration will be given to applicants who,for valid reasons could not make the
  • Application within the stipulated period.
  • A certified copy of the learner’s Birth Certificate ( together with the original) must be presented as proof of age. Any other legal document will be accepted at the time of application. However; it is the parent / guardian’s responsibility to present the original Birth Certificate (together with the certified copy) before the end of December – the year before the child wishes to attend this school.
    • Original authentic Progress Reports of the last examination / evaluation must be presented for application for grade 2 to grade 7. The Progress Report must be accompanied by the official Transfer Document.
    • Any other documents of learner achievement can be presented in support of the application.
    • The parents will receive written notification of the success of the application on the day when the application is made, or soon after such an application is made.
    • The written communication will stipulate the date of registration. Failure to register on the specific date will automatically exclude the learner from admission to the school for the academic year.
    • On registration it is expected that at least the first installment of the annual fees be paid.
    • The school reserves the right to decline an application if no accommodation is available
